Inside the Incredible World of 3-D Printing

Despite its tremendous advances, 3-D printing has yet to make its way into the average person’s everyday life. “It’s too early to understand how we’re going to engage with this on a daily level,” says curator Alex Newson of London’s Design Museum, whose current exhibition, “The Future Is Here: A New Industrial Revolution,” features on-site 3-D printing. “Out of Hand: Materializing the Postdigital,” a show opening in October at Manhattan’s Museum of Arts and Design, will explore similar terrain, demonstrating for a still-uncertain public how 3-D printing can turn computerized visions into reality.But for the early adopters, the new world of 3-
